Dan lives in Pembrokeshire and writes for children and grown-ups.
His radio plays have been broadcast on Radio 4, Radio 3 and Radio Wales, he helped S4C develop its successful children’s series Y Meees and was a scriptwriter on CBBCs Tracy Beaker series.
As a result of this experience he plucked up the courage to try writing a book himself, something his school teachers told him never to do. His first children’s book, The RugbyZombies was nominated for a Tir na n-Og award from the Welsh Books council and he has since completed the popular RugbyZombie trilogy. Dan has visited many schools to talk about his work and leads themed walks around Cardiff for Cardiff Children's Literature Festival.
Dan's first book for Firefly is Steve's Dreams: Steve and the Sabretooth Tiger, published in May 2014. The sequel Steve and the Singing Pirates published in October 2015.
Steve's Dreams creative writing workshops (suitable for years 4-6)
Dan does regular creative writing workshops in schools using his Steve's Dreams books to run a 'Steve's Dream Workshop' which involves a reading and opportunities for children to write their own versions of a Steve's Dreams story based on their own experiences.
'Steve's Dream Workshops’ give opportunities to young writers to work in a structured environment offering solutions to familiar writing problems. At the same time, they allow children creative freedom to explore their own imaginations and work together to create unbelievable stories. The workshops suit children of all abilities and are suitable for years 4, 5, and 6. They build confidence, creative and collaborative skills and offer young writers practical writing solutions. They are also great fun.
